I’m sure this has happened to some of you, since I know it has happened to me! When your parents tell you they have a surprise for you, when it’s Christmas Eve or the day before your birthday…you can’t help but let your imagination go wild! But then, unfortunately, whatever you were looking forward to can’t possibly live up to what you were imagining!

Does this ever happen to you? When does your imagination get the better of you? Let’s chat below!
I have SO TOTALLY done that.
Sunday was my birthday and when I saw the gifts, I got all geared up.
BIG MISTAKE.
Great strip Emma!

Oh, I wrote a story for Stone Soup but I keep chickening out when I try to send it to them, so...
5/14/12 reply
Don't. I'm writing a story, and I tell myself "If it doesn't get published, I'll write another one until one DOES get published." :)

This is totally awesome. I just found your site today and started at the beginning, but now I'm all caught up! Btw, Matt Smith > David Tennet ;) in my opinion (But really does it matter, all Doctor Who is awesome anyway :) ). Apple! Woo!
4/26/12 reply
Oh wow! I'm SO, so flattered that you read through all my comics archive. David Tennant is my personal fave obviously, but I have nothing against people who like Matt Smith better...And I have to say, your username is AWESOME (I totally get the reference). I hope you keep reading my comics every week now that you're all caught up!
4/26/12 reply
I definitely will. Bookmarked both in Safari and in my head.

4/24/12 reply
They're everywhere
8/23/12 reply

Yes! totally!
I am sad. I can't attend Mocca cause it's all the way in New York...
4/21/12 reply
That's a shame! It would've been so cool to meet you :(
4/22/12 reply
Same to you.

As too the surprise chapel is waiting for. i had a wild thought in my head, and it was this. Her mom and dad will tell her that she is going to become a big sister!

if THAT wouldn't blow Chapel's mind, i don't know what.
4/21/12 reply
will we learn what the surprise is?
Yes, a sister would be surprising.
4/21/12 reply
or a brother...
4/21/12 reply
or both a brother and a sister?
4/21/12 reply
OHMYGAWD YES
Hey, go look at Emma's tumblr! She's blogging about how "cute" it is that we're predicting what will happen next.
In the tags she tells us to dance.
Uh...SAMBA
CAN YOU DO THE HIPPOGRIFF MA MA MA MA MA MA MA MA MA
4/22/12 reply
Oh my gosh that's the best dance...but yeah, it's kind of adorable that you guys are trying to figure out what the surprise will be!
4/22/12 reply
Oooh!!!! What a surprise THAT would be!
4/22/12 reply
Oh man, I've said this three times already, but I love this whole discussion!
4/22/12 reply
I love how everyone's picking sides on what they think the surprise will be!
4/22/12 reply
Yes, you will be learning what the surprise is! You'll have to wait a little bit longer to find out, though...
4/22/12 reply
I see! I'm glad that you're coming up with theories, it's fun to read them.
4/22/12 reply

HAPPY B-DAY CHAPEL!!!! (Even though it's tomorrow!!!!)
\(^*^)/ Yay!!!! 13, right?
4/20/12 reply
Um...Chapel doesn't have a defined birthday! I'm not really sure where you got that from, actually...and she's currently 11, not 12!
4/20/12 reply
Ugh, I am soo confused, soory :(
4/20/12 reply
Wait in Haus of Gaga you specifically told us that it was on the 21st, unless you accidentally were talking about somebody else of course! Maybe you should go look!
4/20/12 reply
I'm pretty sure I was talking about the anniversary of the strip! I think it started on April 21st, but I'll have to check that date. But yeah Chapel doesn't have a defined birthday!
4/20/12 reply
Oh! Well, hey, in honor of our misconception and the Chapel fans, tomorrow SHOULD really be made her birthday!
4/20/12 reply
Oh, I am so sorry, I thought you meant that! but we can still celebrate! Happy Anniversary or something! :)
4/21/12 reply
Yeah, that might be cool! Unfortunately it already passed, whoops...anyway, I checked the site dates and it turns out I posted the first strip in May, not April (whoops). I'll have to draw something special for the occasion, and we can celebrate then!
4/22/12 reply
Oh. Okay, No matter Happy Early anniversary! :P
4/23/12 reply
Are you sure? cause someone asked "does Chapel have a birthday?" and you said it was april 21st. guess you meant that it was the day you started the comics...
4/29/12 reply
Oh.
4/20/12 reply
Really? How did you know that! I never knew that!
4/20/12 reply
I don't know where she got that from, it's not true! Ha ha...
4/20/12 reply

I like this one!!!! I don't think I've ever really thought about something, like a surprise, so much that I thought I'd spoil it when it came. At least, not that I remember.
4/20/12 reply
Oh, that's interesting! I guess it happens to some people and not others, because I do it all the time! Maybe I just have an overactive imagination...Anyway, I'm glad you like the strip!
4/22/12 reply

I'm terrible with surprises. With my wife at holidays I'm usually like "hey-I-got-you-a-surprise-it's-a-purse-you-can-have-it-now-if-you-want-it-three-weeks-early"
4/20/12 reply
Oh my gosh...my dad does that to me sometimes! But when it comes to me giving presents to other people, I'm always really careful to keep the secret until it's time to give it to them...
4/22/12 reply

I noticed Chapel's bows have changed...
4/20/12 reply
She wears lots of different hair ties/bows! Sometimes they match something else in the scene.
4/20/12 reply
They still are pretty cute...
4/20/12 reply
Thanks, I'm glad you think so! Aren't they adorable?
4/22/12 reply
Yeah! Has she ever worn bows like these before?
4/23/12 reply
I know, has she???
4/23/12 reply
I don't think so, although I've had her wear tied hair ties before...so sort of a pseudo-bow.
4/23/12 reply
Wow, I'm surprised you picked up on that! That's exactly right, I always try to vary it.
4/22/12 reply
She changes her hair ties all the time! If you'll look, sometimes they have different colors or patterns, or are tied differently like these bows.
4/22/12 reply

only when i was a little kid was i ever surprised by my folks. i don't know if I can predict the future or i'm just jaded, but i am rarely surprised by my folks anymore. for that matter, a number of other things too. chapel and everyone else in here DOES surprise me still.
4/20/12 reply
Really? We surprise you? How so, I hope in a good way? And aww, that's a shame that you're no longer surprised by things...
4/23/12 reply

Yup, this has happened to me! Usually I'm happy with my real surprise though, so all turns out well, haha!

I love her green ribbons, and how she's playing with Rupert in the third panel! (Gotta love Rupert)
4/20/12 reply
Aw, I'm glad you like the ribbons and Rupert! I had fun with it, too. And yeah, I'm normally happy with whatever surprise it turns out to be!
4/23/12 reply

OH MY GOD YES
Actually, I'm usually afraid this will happen (like when I went to the Wizarding World), but then it doesn't.
And more first live stream fun XD
4/20/12 reply
Yeah, I did a lot of them in the livestream... I'm glad that this usually doesn't happen to you!
4/23/12 reply

This is the same general reason I hate explaining something like a movie or book I really enjoyed to someone, because in the end it is never as good as I make it out to be.
Chrissybea 4/20/12 reply
OH YEAH book movies are always disappointing, especially Hunger Games!
4/20/12 reply
Comic book movies really go off the rails into awful town. Tank Girl? Blarrrghhh.
4/20/12 reply
Tank Girl wasn't great to start with. The Iron Man movies were however mind blowing great. so was the latest Batman movies. I should point out that Batman and Iron Man was both based on an more open field story wise than Tank Girl. That and Tank Girl was strait out of the 90's comic productions. they are the kind i would rather forget. ><
4/21/12 reply
Well, you need to check out Emma's new special MoCCA Chapel-as-Batman pin. It looks like the Batman signal in the sky!
4/24/12 reply
Oh, I almost never go to comic book movies because they tend to get so Hollywood-ified.
4/23/12 reply
I actually thought Hunger Games was much more faithful to the books than most adaptations. In a lot of respects it was even more faithful to the source text than the Harry Potter movies are...
4/23/12 reply
TRUE
4/23/12 reply
Oh! That always happens to me, I'll extol the virtues of a book/movie I enjoy and build it up so much that when my friend actually ends up reading it, it's not as good as I'd told them!
4/23/12 reply

I never expect much so I'm always surprised not what you asked I know
Yarin 4/20/12 reply
Love the picture of baby chapel in the first panel
4/21/12 reply
I know right? It's a little interesting that she has a full head of hair.
4/21/12 reply
but not bad, it's cute!
4/21/12 reply
Does chapel have her own laptop?!!
4/22/12 reply
(looks) yep, she does have her own. it's a mac how ever. But she is young, so i have to forgive her for it. (that and she probably didn't buy it for her self either)
4/22/12 reply
Macs are my favorite, so that's what I gave Chapel!
4/23/12 reply
I will admit that i am a die hard windows/PC user. that and i am rather upset at how apple treats their workers in their factories.
4/23/12 reply
Wait, didn't she have a Newton logo in Season One on her laptop?
4/24/12 reply
Yes, she does! Most kids have their own laptops nowadays, from what I've seen...
4/23/12 reply
Well Chapel has so much hair now, it would stand to reason that she had some as a baby, too! I'm the total opposite, I was bald until age 3...
4/23/12 reply
Oh.
4/23/12 reply
Oh, I'm glad you like it! Wasn't she adorable?
4/23/12 reply
Oh, well perhaps it's better to expect less, because yeah, then you're surprised more!
4/23/12 reply

I forgot to say goodnight to you.
