Oh man, parents. They’re always pulling tricks like this one! You’re so excited to chat with them or do something fun with them and they get distracted on the phone and you’re left waiting for ages! I wanted to show that frustration in this strip – Chapel’s obviously SO excited for her surprise and then her mother’s phone conversation drags on so long she doesn’t even get it! This has actually happened to me in the past – a year or two ago I remember I was waiting to watch TV with my mom, but she was busy answering email and took so long that I fell asleep on my bean bag chair.

Has anything like this happened to you? Let’s share our parental frustrations below and have our weekly chats in the comments, I love talking to you all!
I KNOW. Every time, work calls, work sends an email, work instamessages, work does SOMETHING to distract my parents and throw everything off track. The problem nowadays is that people that work have to be on call ALL THE TIME. This is EXTREMELY ANNOYING.

Oh wow.
Once my friend kept asking me what I was getting her for Christmas. When I kept saying 'you'll see' she got tired out.
I like what you did with the colour here!

Oh wait.. Cheese?

HEY GUYS! There's less than a day until the next strip gets posted! Until then, I'd love to hear your theories on what the surprise will be! If anyone's here commenting, let me know what you think is going to happen!

tickets to a lady gaga concert! or... her mom's having a baby!
5/4/12 reply

Oh, Oh! maybe she'll be given a surprise that has to do with Lady Gaga!
5/2/12 reply
i was hoping for something more orginal than that.
5/2/12 reply
well, like what?
5/3/12 reply

Emma, are you going to go to the Maker Faire this month?
5/1/12 reply
I'm not sure! I'll have to see how it fits into my schedule, the next month for me is crazy.
5/2/12 reply
eek.
5/2/12 reply
well, if you figure it out, maybe you could tell me!
5/4/12 reply
i was hoping you could fit that in with your appearence on "Fox and Friends" morning show, the shooting for the Movie they are making with you staring in, and the international book tour you have. ;-)

?
5/3/12 reply
Ahh...ah ha ha! I'm not doing anything of that caliber, believe me, just the end of the school year and several comics projects.

I hope Miss Emma and family is back from NYC and not got caught up in all that occupy insanity that is rocking NYC.
5/1/12 reply
We're okay! We got back on Monday, so we missed any turmoil...what's happening over there?
5/3/12 reply
Thankfully, you dodged the May Day protests. they got kinda violent this time around. people get hurt, buildings get torn up, arrests are made. in general, they rioted and it was not a good thing.
5/4/12 reply
The May Day protests weren't that bad this year actually.
5/15/12 reply
HEY!
5/15/12 reply

its not really a trick parents are just busy
Yarin 4/29/12 reply
yeah.
4/29/12 reply
Yes, I know :D It's just sad sometimes that parents ARE so busy, and I guess the only thing you can do about it is take it humorously (or parody it)!
5/3/12 reply

Good luck, Emma!!!! I like Chapel's Mom's office!!!!
4/28/12 reply
Thanks! I'm so glad you like it, it was fun to draw!

Hey guys, as my mom said below, I'm currently in NYC this weekend exhibiting at a convention. I'll hopefully be able to respond to all of your comments, but during the day I won't be online, so please chat amongst yourselves. I'll probably be dropping in to let you guys know what I'm up to; for example, right now I'm in a taxi driving into Manhattan, typing my comment responses on my phone.

Anyway, that's what's up this week! Hope you guys like the comic and I'll be back to comment soon...

Have fun and don't talk to anyone dressed like Jar-Jar Binks. They're not to be trusted!
4/28/12 reply
Jar-Jar you say? i should add to that and say BEWARE of people in certain bear suits. if you have been on the 'net long enough, you will know what i am talking about. <_<
4/28/12 reply
I know what you're talking about! Luckily, it was a-okay -- there was next to nobody cosplaying at the event, it doesn't really have that sort of vibe.
5/3/12 reply
I won't! But it's not really that kind of convention...it's more of a small creators expo than a big anime/fandom convention!

Hi everyone:
Emma is at MoCCA in NYC this weekend selling her comics from 10-6pm each day so she may be late with comments. Wish her luck and send her good thoughts!
4/27/12 reply
GOOD LUCK EMMA!!! KNOW YOU'LL DO FANTABULOUSLY BECAUSE YOU'RE JUST SO PWN!
YAY love this comic too BTW! YOU ROCK!!
4/27/12 reply
YAY THANK YOU! I'm really excited, hopefully I'll be able to spread the Chapel love to a whole new set of people!
4/27/12 reply
Good luck, Emma!

Anyway, my mom is always saying, "Kids! It's time to go! Stop talking to your friends, we're leaving right now." And then 10 minutes later she's still talking to HER friends.
4/27/12 reply
Oh, I know the feeling in some respects...I'm glad to know you share the same parental frustrations! I have a feeling the comments section on this strip might turn into a "kvetch about our parents" section!
4/27/12 reply
My friends and I invented a theory that if we hide and don't make much noise, then our parents chat and chat and chat and really forget all about us.
5/15/12 reply
Good luck Emma, hope you do well!
4/27/12 reply
Thanks! I'm super excited for it!
4/27/12 reply
Yeah! Good luck!
4/27/12 reply
May you find victory (and sales) at MoCCA Miss Emma!

(pops in AC/DC's "for those about to rock, we salute you" in honor Emma)
4/28/12 reply
Oh gosh, I love that song! And thank you, it went REALLY well and I had a great time!
5/3/12 reply

you won't tell us the surprise this week Miss Emma? you have us all up on pins and needles waiting for it Miss Emma. Even I wanted to know what the surprise is!

I really didn't have any Parental Frustrations, but i now know what being TROLLED is from our beloved Miss Emma. And for your efforts, i will give you a Gold Star Miss Emma, and that is a rare thing for anyone to earn off of me. Good Job my dear. >)
4/27/12 reply
Why would I be trolling? I'm just lengthening the buildup for the surprise is all! And it works doesn't it -- are you guys all on the edge of your seats?

Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying the storyline so far! Hee hee...
4/27/12 reply
i called it trolling because i honestly thought you would reveal what the surprise was and you didn't. THAT surprised ME! not many people can do that to me.

At first i thought you were just yanking our chain, but after thinking on it, you are indeed playing out the story line. so Good Job Emma.

... but don't drag it out TOO long, alright?
4/28/12 reply
I won't drag it out too long! You're actually going to find out tomorrow what the surprise is, although I can't say much more than that.

I'm actually kind of flattered I managed to surprise you, it's nice that I was able to do that!
5/3/12 reply

We still don't know what the surprise is! I can't wait for it! :D
4/27/12 reply
Hee hee...well I can just say you'll be finding out VERY soon! But I won't say anything beyond that...
4/27/12 reply
aww, but I guess I can wait.... :)
4/27/12 reply
You'll find out tomorrow! Exciting, isn't it?
5/3/12 reply

Pssh, my mom talk on the phone too long? Noo! (beware the sarcasm) Haha, I think it's just a "mom thing" to spend practically all day on the phone-- especially when you need/want them for something. :P

4/27/12 reply
My mom doesn't actually talk TOO much on the phone, but my dad sure does! His collleagues from work are always calling, I swear, when we're right in the middle of a conversation! Oh parents...must they frustrate us so?
4/27/12 reply
life isn't always about you kiddo. ever thought about it from your parent's point of view? or others? Politeness and Patience are rare virtues these days.
4/28/12 reply
I understand, Taxil! There's no harm in having some good-natured fun at your parents' expense, if underneath you really do understand and appreciate them. :)
5/3/12 reply
SO TRUE
5/15/12 reply
When my mom gets on the phone with her sisters, really nothing gets done around here!
5/15/12 reply

I forgot to say goodnight to you.
