Well, looks like Chapel and Barnaby’s mom isn’t swallowing Barnaby’s prank as easily as Chapel did! Dr. Smith is really good at doling out appropriate punishments, isn’t she? I find it hilarious how both Chapel and Barnaby immediately go on the defensive as soon as Dr. Smith begins to get really angry…I guess it’s that “fear of God” response that comes with knowing you’re in trouble! Well, Chapel’s not in trouble, at least. Barnaby, though…Barnaby is sure in a pickle!

Trivia question for you loyal Chapel readers: In which other strip did Chapel’s mom enforce a punishment relating to Justin Bieber? No cheating, now!

And comment discussion topic of the day! Do you think Barnaby deserved to be punished for what he did? Or is he just being victimized for a harmless prank?
.....That could get nasty.....
I really think Barnaby deserves it. I mean, he tricked Chapel, her mom (Chapel's mom's name is Lia right?)
and probably her dad too. (Is his name Sam?)
6/11/12 reply
Where did you get that from? (The mom's name. I now remember that her dad's name is Sam.)
6/12/12 reply
In one of the comments in Jenga War Strategy, somebody asked if the picture on the wall was of Chapel's family. When Emma replied and said it was, she named Chapel's family members.
6/23/12 reply
Yes, that's their names! I guess he does deserve it...
7/22/12 reply

I know the comic where Chapel's mom was mean and punished with Bieber... >:D but I'm not telling.
werekitty13 6/9/12 reply
Also, I quite like Barnaby! He's funny, interesting, and I love how you drew him!
werekitty13 6/9/12 reply
Wow, I'm glad you like him! I'm really enjoying showing his differences and similarities with his sister.
6/9/12 reply
Someone else already figured it out as well! I'll just spoil it: it was the comic called "Cruel and Unusual Punishment" while this comic is called "Cruel and Unusual Punishment: Reprise." Bravo for figuring it out as well!
6/9/12 reply

Not anything to do with today's comic, but you're such a bright girl I thought you might appreciate this comic about science.

Oh, I'm sorry, we have anti-spam software in the website programmed to block URLs! Thank you for trying to recommend a comic, though! If you put the periods in the URL in parentheses, it should work.

Link didn't work
6/8/12 reply
Hpph. Well, it was by Phil Plait, called welcome to Science, and if you get time you might look for it.
6/8/12 reply
Yes, I'll definitely keep an eye out for it! I'm not super passionate about science, but any well-made and educational comics are always something I enjoy!
6/8/12 reply
(^^)
6/9/12 reply
I love History, but i find Science just as awesome as well. I know many of you love Dr. Who. I know that you know what he has a sonic screw driver. guess what?

Scientist and Engineers are RIGHT NOW, here in real life in the process of MAKING IT REAL! a fully funicial sonic screwdriver, how awesome is that! now who said science is boring?
6/9/12 reply
Wow, I had no idea about that! I never said science was boring, I'm just not as interested in it as I am in say, art.
6/9/12 reply
Yes, I'm sorry about that! Since this website doesn't require a captcha or any sort of email to leave a comment, we have to put in all sorts of anti-spam tricks, like blocking links.

AWWW, I think she should've let him off the hook! he's so ADORABLEEEE
Especially in that 3rd panel! HIS EYES XD
6/8/12 reply
i see both Chapel and Barnaby have light blue eyes. that is a rare color to find. but my eyes are even more rare. I have heterochromia eyes, my dad has them too. i guess it's a mutation that runs in my family.
6/8/12 reply
Wow, heterochromia eyes are amazing! What colors are yours? I have green eyes, which are very rare, but CERTAINLY not as rare as heterochromia.
6/8/12 reply
You have green eyes too???? Everyone tells me my eyes are really pretty because they're hazel and "striking", as my mom puts it, lol ;D
6/8/12 reply
Hazel's different than green, though, hazel eyes are green and brown. Mine are pure green!
6/8/12 reply
Pure green eyes? do either of your parents or grand parents have red hair by any chance?
6/8/12 reply
I think my paternal grandmother's hair may have been red, but the green eyes come from my mom's Italian side of the family, all of whom have dark hair.
6/8/12 reply
Green eyes and red hair hail from deep celtic/galic blood lines. it is becoming rarer these days.
6/9/12 reply
Well, my red-haired relatives do not have green eyes, those come from my Italian family.
6/9/12 reply
Nothern Italy had colonies of Celtic tribes people hundreds of years ago settled in and mingled into the gene pool. they probably didn't teach you that in your history lesions, but it's true.

but granted, green eyes and red hair don't always go together.
6/9/12 reply
as a follow up, dear god, my eyes have changed already, light green and orange now.
6/9/12 reply
ORANGE?!?
6/9/12 reply
you heard me right. orange. I guess i'm a weird old man. Senses ghosts, eyes changes color, enjoys talking to young kids in a comment section on a nice webcomic. i just can't make this stuff up! real life is sometimes better than fiction.

what's next? Kick rises funds to make a TV show out of all of us?
6/9/12 reply
Um, okay
6/9/12 reply
(face palm) I ment to type kick start dot com. it's a populare website that raises money for people with good ideas to start a company or makes a movie (and other things)

I'm sorry if some of you have not heard of it. maybe my joke missed the mark. ><
6/9/12 reply
It's okay! (^^)
6/10/12 reply
It's kickstarter and does help people raise funds for creative endeavors.
6/11/12 reply
Thaaat's niiice.... I guesss...
6/24/12 reply
...
6/9/12 reply
I'm half Italian, more of my heritage than anything else.
6/24/12 reply
Emma's green eyes come from me, her mother. But only my sister and I have green eyes. Everyone else in our large family has both dark brown eyes and brown hair.
6/11/12 reply
Well... I have some relatives who have hazel eyes and I have faint natural red highlights in my hair but that's about it for me with the red hair and green eyes.
6/24/12 reply
My grandmother on my mom's side had reddish hair. My hair is brown, but I have lots of different natural highlights because my family has lots of different hair colors (blond, brown, black, red) Our eyes are all different browns though.
I have an Italian side too!
6/24/12 reply
They are (right now) Brown and dark green. Here is a small bit of trivia for those who don't have Heterochromia. not all of we who have heterochromia are configured the same way. we can two diffrent colors in the same eye. others (like myself), the colors can slowly change over time. last year my eyes where light hazel and blue.

i don't know why they do that. It could be diet or exposure to various degrees of sunlight. I'm just not sure.
6/8/12 reply
I had a teacher who's eyes were like that, too. Only hers would shift slightly depending on her mood!
6/9/12 reply
THAT... could happen. When they start glowing brightly, you should start to worry and/or run away!
6/9/12 reply
Jeez, you're teaching me so much, Taxil! I was never aware that people with heterochromia could have their eyes change color. How strange!
6/8/12 reply
Stick around me, you'll learn a thing or two. ;-)
6/9/12 reply
I have heterochromia eyes too! Mine are green and brown.
6/9/12 reply
Wow, what are the chances! It's amazing that two of you would have heterochromia eyes.
6/9/12 reply
Well, he DID do something that made his sister cry...I don't really think he should get off scott-free! But it's true, he is adorable.
6/8/12 reply

I think that Barnaby should be punished, but not so severely. What he did do wasn't that bad, but bad enough to get in trouble
6/8/12 reply
i guess Chapel's mom needs to calm down and forgive him. he needs that car until he can get his own, or he WILL lose his job for real.
6/8/12 reply
Well, we can be sure he'll use public transportation. Plus, he and Chapel's mom ARE commuting to the same place -- after a while, I'm sure she'll cave and let him carpool.
6/8/12 reply
good enough for me. ^^
6/8/12 reply
Actually, yeah. If Chapel's mom actually contributes to Barnaby losing his job, she would feel even worse than she does now
6/9/12 reply
It's fine, it won't happen. :)
6/9/12 reply
Well, THAT'S good! (^^)
6/9/12 reply
Yeah, I'd be inclined to agree! Really, I think he should just consider how upset he made Chapel -- because that's the only thing worth feeling badly for, really...
6/8/12 reply

Well, since this one is called Cruel and Unusual Punishment: Reprise, it would only make since to guess that Dr. Smith punished with Justin Bieber was Cruel and Unusual Punishment... plus, I remember the name.

I'm not sure I would be especially happy with someone if they did to me what Barnaby did to his family... but I'm not sure I would want them to be punished either. Unusual situation, it is. :3
6/8/12 reply
Wow, how did I miss spelling sense wrong up there? :P
6/8/12 reply
Ah, it's fine, I understood what you meant!
6/8/12 reply
Haha, typos drive me crazy.
6/10/12 reply
Yup, that's exactly the reference! I'm glad you caught that. And yeah, the situation with Barnaby is a tough one -- that's why I thought it'd be interesting to get everyone's take on whether they think him being punished is fair or not. It's a conundrum indeed!
6/8/12 reply

NO-ONE deserves to be forced to listen to Justin Bieber 24/7...
That's not a punishment, that's veering into 'evil mastermind' territory!
6/8/12 reply
well, if she tries that, he could counter with 24/7 Barry Manilow. >)
6/8/12 reply
Hmm, I don't think Barnaby is the kind of person who would listen to Barry Manilow -- but it's a good idea!
6/8/12 reply
Barry Manilow lissiening has been used as a vailid punishment in our courts of law. i remember an news artical i read some time ago that some thug was arrested for disterbing the peace by paying some god aweful rap music way too loud. so the judge senteced the punk to lissien to Barry for over 14 hours if i remember right.
6/8/12 reply
WOW, that's incredible! I never knew about that being used as a valid punishment.
6/8/12 reply
That's amazing. Shows how bad some music is getting.
6/24/12 reply
Yes, I'd have to agree! Also, I adore your username!
